Key Power Conference Games Shape Up for 2025 College Football Playoff Season

As the 2025 College Football Playoff (CFP) season approaches, several high-stakes matchups are set to take centre stage, carrying significant implications for playoff positioning and conference championships.

One of the most anticipated games is the season opener between Texas and Ohio State on August 30th. Two CFP contenders from the Big 12 and Big Ten, respectively, will square off in a clash that promises to be a thrilling start to the season.

The Big Ten and Big 12 will face off again on September 6th, as Michigan takes on Oklahoma. This early season matchup could have profound playoff ramifications.

Later in September, undefeated teams Penn State and Oregon are set to collide, with a big impact on Big Ten and Pac-12 status. The game could be a decisive factor in the race for CFP spots.

On October 11th, Michigan will face USC in a pivotal game between Big Ten and Pac-12 powers. The outcome could significantly influence CFP seeding.

November 1st will see a highly anticipated clash between Penn State and Ohio State, described as the single biggest game of the regular season based on rankings and analytics.

Texas and Georgia will square off on November 15th in a crucial late-season SEC matchup that could decide playoff positioning and conference supremacy for Texas.

The traditional Big Ten rivalry game between Ohio State and Michigan, scheduled for November 29th, will continue to carry profound playoff implications, even in the expanded 12-team format.

Conference championship games themselves are crucial, as champions in the ACC, Big Ten, SEC, and Big 12 receive automatic CFP bids. The ACC Championship Game is projected to be between Clemson and Miami on December 6th at 8 p.m. ET.

Independent Notre Dame and Boise State of the Mountain West are frontrunners for the other two non-power conference berths. A victory in South Bend by Boise State could put them in the driver's seat for the non-Power 4 berth.

The SEC Championship Game is projected to be between Texas and Georgia on December 6th at 4 p.m. ET. The Big 12 Championship Game is projected to be between Iowa State and Texas Tech on the same day at noon ET.

The focus is on assembling a 12-team field in December for the College Football Playoff. The national championship game will be held in Miami Gardens, Fla.

These 20 games will provide a heavy dose of power conference action, paving the way to a College Football Playoff berth. The Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, and ACC will all be well represented in these crucial matches.
