Deceptive Mount Fuji Replica in China: White-Wash Hilltop Tricks Tourists
Fake Mount Fuji Sparks Outrage in China
In the peculiar world of tourism, a Hilltop of Illusions has become a hot topic after it was tricked out to resemble the iconic Mount Fuji. Situated in Hebei province, northern China, this illusionary mountain, named Universe Fantasy Land, charges a hefty Rs 1,138 (98 yuan) for each visit.
According to reports floating around in the South China Morning Post, this quirky attraction went viral on Chinese social media platforms. The authorities behind this fantasy landscape lured in potential visitors with dreams of a fairy tale landscape featuring a mountain, a lake, lush greenery, a white horse, and a picturesque wooden cottage.
Promotional videos showcased this location as a dreamy getaway from the monotony of city life. One of these videos showcased tourists snuggled up in a nearby building, while artificial pink smoke was released from the hill, presenting the "eruption" of a volcano hill.
Sadly, the fantasy fell short of the reality. Many visitors were left nursing feelings of disillusionment and being scammed as the mountain they paid to see was nothing more than a modest hilltop, sloppily painted white.
"Just a small hill with white paint on its top. It has nothing to do with Mount Fuji," grumbled one visitor. Another spectator added, "Just another instance of how modern individuals are misled by glamorous pictures."
A third commenter scoffed, "You don't need to pay for fake Mount Fuji photos when you can get the real ones for free. Here, you gotta pay for the bogus one."
This isn't the first time Hebei province has made headlines for its dubious depictions of monuments and tourist attractions. The Eiffel Tower, the Great Sphinx of Giza, and portions of the Great Wall have all been replicated here, much to the delight of tourists.
This is the Hebei province's version of Mount Fuji at 宇宙思想乐园 (Cosmic Thought Park) in Linqi Valley, Yongqing County, Langfang, Heibei, near Beijing...

Chinese man rescued twice in a week
This week, a Chinese man found himself in a sticky situation while scaling the slopes of Mount Fuji, no less than twice in a week.
The man had to be helicopter-lifted from the Fujinomiya trail, around 3,000m above sea level, on the mountain's Shizuoka Prefecture side. However, in a bizarre twist, he decided to retrace his steps just four days later to retrieve his lost belongings, including his phone.
It remains unclear if he successfully retrieved the phone, but rescue officials soon recognized the man as the same one they had rescued a few days prior.
- Despite the deception at Universe Fantasy Land in Hebei province, near Beijing, the man still found himself drawn to the real Mount Fuji, scaling its slopes twice in a week.
- The Chinese man's second ascent of Mount Fuji was as precarious as the first, requiring a helicopter rescue from the Fujinomiya trail at approximately 3,000 meters above sea level.
- Amusement turned to alarm when the man, having shouldered the perils of Mount Fuji once more, decided to retrace his steps to retrieve his lost belongings, including his phone.
- Remarkably, the same social media platforms that had helped spread the word of Universe Fantasy Land, a mountain replica in China, were now filled with stories of the man's harrowing experiences on Mount Fuji, another iconic landmark.
