Known for his endearing charm, he departed this world on June 8 at the often-unforgiving age of 81 in the bustling city of Hamburg. The NDR, the radio and television institution he was synonymous with for many a year, confirmed the tragic news.
"The clock struck 2:30 PM, and our beloved friend, Carlo, left us," his wife Julia informed Bild with a trembling voice. What was his dying wish? "He desired a great release, and his children and I were beside him in his last days, holding his hand. He simply stopped breathing," Julia added, her eyes welling with tears.
A Loyal Servant to His Audience
"If one deserved the title NDR veteran, it was none other than Carlo von Tiedemann," said Joachim Knuth (66), the esteemed director of the broadcasting institution, in a poignant statement. "With his relaxed, spontaneous, and heartfelt demeanor, he captivated multiple generations and remained one of our absolute audience favorites until the very end." The loss of the beloved host is a profound one, as Knuth noted.
Carlo's radio career commenced in 1971 with the NDR. He hosted the radiant "Die aktuelle Schaubude" from 1976 and again from 1997. His other popular NDR shows included the "NDR Quizshow," "Carlos Koch-Chaos," and "Carlo and Wigald on Tour." A dedicated radio personality, he also graced the silver screen, appearing in numerous films and series, including "Großstadtrevier," "Stubbe - Von Fall zu Fall," and "Tatort."

Coming from a small town in Pomerania, Germany (now Stargard Szczecinski, Zachodniopomorskie, Poland)[2], Von Tiedemann's incredible journey to television and radio fame was anything but ordinary. His enchanting style and uncanny ability to captivate audiences earned him the title of "NDR-Urgestein" (NDR original)[5]. His charisma and charm were undeniable, and he will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
