Dec. 20 mapuy-an na ang relocation site sa Guizo
Mandaue City is preparing to move families displaced by Typhoon Tino into a temporary relocation site. The storm struck on November 4, 2025, leaving many without homes. Mayor Thadeo Jovito 'Jonkie' Ouano announced the plan to provide shelter while the city searches for a permanent solution.
The temporary site, named Pasilong Sa Paradise, is located in Barangay Guizo. It will offer 100 housing units from the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and 300 tents. The first batch of shelters is set to be ready by December 20, allowing relocations to begin.
The site will include essential utilities like water and electricity to ensure basic comfort. Portable toilets will be installed by Solid Waste Management Services Philippines, Inc., the private contractor handling the setup. Mayor Ouano has made it clear that families whose homes were completely destroyed, as well as those still in evacuation centres, will be prioritised for relocation. Despite the city’s efforts, some displaced families have chosen to remain in makeshift shelters, such as tunnels and gymnasiums, rather than move immediately. The mayor has expressed a preference for permanent housing over tents, believing it will provide better living conditions in the long term. The Barangay Guizo site will serve as a temporary measure while the city continues its search for a permanent resettlement area.
The relocation effort aims to provide immediate shelter for those most affected by Typhoon Tino. With housing units and tents ready by mid-December, the city plans to move families out of evacuation centres and into safer conditions. The temporary site will remain in use until a permanent resettlement location is secured.
