Yet, the record books may soon see a new entry. Mason Miller, a pitcher who has been making waves this season, threw a pitch that clocked in at an astonishing 104.1 mph (167.5 kph). This pitch, which resulted in a strikeout, is not only the fastest this season but also currently holds the MLB record for pitch speed.
This historic pitch was part of an at-bat against Lourdes Gurriel Jr. of the Diamondbacks, a player who famously hit a 103.9 mph pitch for a home run, the fastest pitch ever hit for a homer in MLB history.
Before Miller's record-breaking pitch, other top marks included around 103.2 mph for homer-offering pitches and 102.6 mph for strikeouts by starters.
Jordan Hicks is the only other pitcher in the top 10 fastest pitches ever, with a speed of 105.0 mph (169.0 kph). Interestingly, if we adjust for modern measurement standards, the high-end estimate for Bob Feller's pitch, clocked at 98.6 mph (158.7 kph), is 107.6 mph (173.2 kph).
