A Nightmare Thrashing for Marco Reus and His LA Galaxy
Debacle for Messi, torment for Reus marked by loss in record
Hey there, football fans! It's been a tough season for former BVB star Marco Reus and his LA Galaxy team in the Major League Soccer. In a rematch of last year's final, things got even tougher.
Reus and his crew are in deep crisis, and it's getting weirder by the day. On the 12th matchday of the MLS, LA suffered its most devastating defeat yet, losing 0-7 (0-3) to the New York Red Bulls—the franchise's worst loss in history. The team, led by the German ex-international, is still without their first season victory. Their last win was a 2-1 final victory against New York way back in December 2024.
Messi, too, tasted defeat like never before in the MLS. Ex-Bundesliga players Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (last with FC Bayern) and Emil Forsberg (RB Leipzig) each netted twice for New York, while Reus was substituted in the 64th minute with a scoreline of 0-4. With three draws and nine losses, Galaxy is currently the worst team in the league.
"It was a sh*tshow from start to finish. We were terrible," LA Galaxy coach Greg Vanney bluntly admitted after the game. "We need to figure out within our group how we can improve and reach our goals. One thing's for certain—we need to stick together as a team," he added.
Another Defeat for Messi and Miami
It's very rare in the MLS, but Marco Reus is sounding the alarm. Even Inter Miami, with eight-time world footballer Lionel Messi, is struggling at the moment. Miami lost 1-4 to Minnesota United. It was Messi's worst defeat in the MLS.
Messi scored his fifth goal of the season to bring his team back into the game at the start of the second half. After their second league defeat, Miami sits fourth in the Eastern Conference. Miami's last win was against the New York Red Bulls, following their exit from the North American Champions Cup semi-finals against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
"If the players aren't delivering, the blame's on me," said Inter coach Javier Mascherano, who used to share the pitch with Messi at FC Barcelona. "If the coach can't motivate the players or convey his vision, the blame falls squarely on the coach."
- "Despite the stellar presence of Lionel Messi, Inter Miami, like Marco Reus's LA Galaxy, is facing a challenging season in the MLS."
- "It seems neither Messi nor Reus have yet found their footing in the American football landscape, as their respective teams continue to struggle."
- "The MLS has delivered some unexpected results this season, with both Messi and Reus experiencing the bitter taste of defeat more frequently than in their illustrious careers."
- "With Marco Reus and Messi both experiencing difficulties in the MLS, one might question whether the American-football environment suits the talents of these world-class footballers."
