Death sentence sought for Charlie Kirk's murder suspect: An overview of the charges against Tyler Robinson

In a significant development in a recent incident of political violence, Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old individual, has been charged with aggravated murder for the killing of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk. The charges were announced on Tuesday, and prosecutors have announced their intention to seek the death penalty.

The lead investigator in the case is Robert Bohls, the special investigator from the FBI field office in Salt Lake City. He confirmed the seizure of the weapon believed to have been used in the attack linked to Robinson.

The suspect was first spotted on surveillance video crossing a public walkway and dropping onto a roof around 12:15 p.m. He was carrying an item consistent in shape to a rifle, which he dropped as he hit the ground. A university police officer found markings consistent with a sniper on a roof area during the search for the shooter.

Investigators discovered a bolt-action rifle wrapped in a towel in the wooded area off UVU’s campus. DNA consistent with Robinson’s was found on the trigger, other parts of the rifle, the fired cartridge casing, two of the three unfired cartridges, and the towel.

Each round inside the rifle had unique messages engraved on the bullet casings. The phrase 'NoTices Bulge OWO What's This?' was engraved on the fired bullet.

Robinson allegedly concealed or removed the firearm used in the shooting and destroyed or concealed the clothing he wore during the shooting. He admitted to his roommate that he had been planning the attack for over a week and that he shot Kirk due to his perceived hatred.

In addition to aggravated murder, Robinson faces charges of obstruction of justice, felony discharge of a firearm, commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child, and witness tampering. His roommate discovered a note under his keyboard that read, 'I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I'm going to take it.'

Kirk's death occurred six days ago at an event at Utah Valley University. The shooting sparked a manhunt and a lockdown of the campus. Robinson turned himself into the Washington County Sheriff's Office approximately 33 hours after the shooting.

The charging document outlines evidence collected by investigators, including the DNA on the suspected murder weapon and a texted confession. The investigation is still ongoing, and more details may be revealed in the coming days.
