In an unexpected twist, Asghar Jahangir, spokesperson for Iran's judiciary, revealed on April 16th that the singer was facing multiple convictions. These included a 10-year prison sentence for "encouraging corruption and immorality" and a previous five-year sentence for "insulting sanctities."

However, the five-year sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court following an appeal by the Tehran Public Prosecutor's Office, and the case was handed to a parallel court (the Sixth Branch), which imposed a death sentence based on Articles 262 and 514 of the 2013 Islamic Penal Code.

Tataloo, a renowned underground artist, has lived in Istanbul since 2018. However, Turkish authorities handed him over to Iran in December of last year. Elham Rahimifar, one of the singer's lawyers, confirmed that he received a combination of prison sentences, but declined to provide further details.

Tataloo's death sentence has prompted widespread outrage and calls for clemency. The final decision on the execution is pending the outcome of formal appeals and clemency requests from his lawyers.
