Deaflympics 2025 badminton heats up as Malaysia’s stars face decisive group matches

The Deaflympics 2025 badminton tournament is in full swing, with the Preliminary, Knock-out, and Seeding stages underway. In the men's singles category, Malaysia's Edmund Teo is set to face Denmark's William Haurholm-Rasmussen in his final group match. Teo's teammate, 18-year-old R. Aravindakumara, has already secured victories against Thailand's Anuntawip Sombun and will next face Taiwan's Chung-I Chen.

Aravindakumara's impressive performance includes a hard-fought win against Sombun, 21-23, 21-12, 22-20. The young Malaysian showcased resilience and skill, coming back from a set down to secure the victory. Teo, on the other hand, faced a tough challenge from host nation's Yasuhiro Nagaishi, losing a close match 16-21, 21-16, 22-20. Despite the loss, Teo's performance has been commendable, setting up an exciting final group match against Haurholm-Rasmussen.

In the women's singles, Trisya Rafael lost her first-round match against host player Mai Kamata in Group I. Rafael will next face Turkey's Gizem Nur Uludag, looking to bounce back from her opening defeat.
