Plunged into Depth - Forklift Driver Seriously Injured - Deadly quarry collapse in Swabia claims worker’s life amid harsh weather

A 54-year-old man died on Wednesday after a slope collapsed in an open-pit mine near Wemding, Swabia. The accident happened while he was operating a wheel loader in the quarry, with heavy weather conditions triggering the collapse, leading to the fatal incident.

The worker was driving along the uppermost tier of the quarry when part of the slope suddenly gave way. He did not notice the hazard in time and drove too close to the edge, causing another section to collapse. The weight of the wheel loader then pulled the machine steeply downward, flipping it over.

The incident occurred in a quarry in the Donau-Ries district of Swabia. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the collapse, with weather conditions believed to have played a key role. The accident has left the site temporarily closed for safety checks.
