Deadly Cyclone Batters Primorsky Krai with Snow and Blizzards

A powerful cyclone has swept through Primorsky Krai over the past 24 hours, bringing heavy snow and blizzard conditions. The worst-hit area was Ussuriysky District, where roads became treacherous and multiple accidents occurred.

The storm first struck late in the workweek, causing a blizzard in Ussuriysk. By Thursday, the A-370 federal highway saw a mass pile-up, leaving 15 people injured and two dead. Snowfall was heaviest in Kamenushka village, with 6.2 mm recorded, while nearby Preobrazheniye settlement received 5.1 mm.

Light snow mixed with rain lingered along the eastern coast, but skies cleared elsewhere as the cyclone began moving out. Road crews worked non-stop to keep routes open, deploying 350 pieces of specialised equipment. By Friday evening, the system is expected to fully exit the region.

Northern winds will pick up in its wake, bringing a cold snap. Temperatures are forecast to drop by 1–3°C compared to Thursday's readings.

The cyclone's departure will leave behind stronger winds and colder conditions. While snowfall has eased in most areas, Ussuriysky District remains under intense precipitation. Authorities continue clearing operations to restore normal travel conditions.
