Deadly and reckless trend leaves one in ten victims either dead or severely injured

In a bid to address a growing concern, the Federal Police Inspectorate in Chemnitz has issued a warning about the dangerous practice of "S-Bahn surfing" following an incident in Meerane.

The warning, transmitted via news aktuell, comes after a witness observed a male individual on the buffer of a regional express train in Meerane. This is not an isolated incident, as the Federal Police have previously investigated a case in Flöha, registered in June 2023.

"S-Bahn surfing" involves individuals riding on the roofs of trains, a trend that has been increasing in frequency. However, it's important to note that trains are not designed to hold onto their outer parts, and at high speeds, holding on becomes almost impossible. This dangerous activity poses significant risks not only to the individuals participating but also to others in the vicinity.

Accidents with this voltage are almost always fatal, and "S-Bahn surfing" carries the additional risk of electric shock from the overhead line with 15,000 volts. The Federal Police Inspectorate Chemnitz urges the public to refrain from such behaviour, emphasising that it is life-threatening.

Investigation procedures were initiated by the Federal Police in response to the case in Flöha, but no specific individuals were publicly named. The police issued warnings about the dangers of such behaviour and reported cases, including one observed in Meerane and another in Flöha, leading to investigations without naming individuals.

This trend is often shared on social media platforms, and the Federal Police Inspectorate Chemnitz can be contacted for further inquiries at Telephone: 0371 4615 105, Email: [email protected].

It's crucial to remember that frequent severe or fatal accidents occur due to "S-Bahn surfing." People often end up under the train or collide with obstacles or oncoming trains. The city of Chemnitz has seen a trend of "S-Bahn surfing," involving individuals riding on passenger trains, trams, and freight trains.

The Federal Police urges everyone to prioritise safety and avoid engaging in this dangerous activity. Let's spread awareness instead of the trend.
