A fatal crash on the A24 near Kremmen left one man dead on Saturday evening. The accident happened when a 20-year-old driver attempted an unsafe overtaking maneuver, triggering a multi-vehicle collision. The highway toward Berlin remained closed for over three hours as police investigated the scene.
The incident took place between the Linumer Bruch-Süd service area and the Kremmen exit, in the direction of Havelland. The 20-year-old motorist tried to pass another car but failed to spot a vans already in the left lane. The collision sent the vans veering right, where it struck the guardrail, flipped onto its left side, and came to a stop.
The 52-year-old vans driver did not survive, despite immediate resuscitation attempts. Moments later, an 83-year-old driver crashed into the overturned vehicle, suffering minor injuries. Three vehicles were involved in total, with police estimating the damage at around €80,000.
Authorities closed the A24 toward Berlin for hours while clearing the wreckage. No updates on long-term traffic changes or alternative routes have been announced so far.
The accident remains under investigation, with the failed overtaking attempt identified as the cause. The 52-year-old victim's death marks the crash's most severe consequence, while the 83-year-old driver received treatment for minor injuries. The highway has since reopened, but no further measures have been confirmed.
