In August 2025, Alabama residents will head to the polls for the municipal elections. Here's what you need to know about absentee voting and identification requirements.

Absentee Voting Deadlines

If you're planning to vote by absentee ballot, it's essential to meet the deadlines. Mail-in absentee ballot applications must be received by municipal absentee election managers by Tuesday, August 19, 2025. In-person absentee ballot applications, on the other hand, must be received by Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Absentee ballots returned in person must be received by the municipal absentee election manager by the close of business on August 25, 2025, the day before Election Day. Ballots returned by mail must be received no later than noon on Election Day, August 26, 2025.

Identification Requirements

Voters are required to present a valid photo ID both when voting in person at polling places and when voting by absentee ballot. Examples of valid photo IDs include government-issued photo identification.

You can download a municipal election absentee ballot application on the platform, and it's recommended to submit your application and ballot at least two weeks before the deadline for municipal absentee election managers to receive them.
