DC Police Department almost fully prepared for upcoming May 12th vote
Fresh Take:
Davao City is gearing up for the 2025 elections, and the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth and credible polling process. Police Major Hazel Caballero Tuazon revealed during a radio interview that the preparations are nearly complete, with just a 2% buffer left to handle any last-minute issues or surprises.
DCPO city director, Police Colonel Hansel Marantan, has been overseeing the city's election readiness. One of the crucial steps is the delivery of Automated Counting Machines (ACMs), which began on May 1. The ACMs, critical for accurate and efficient ballot counting, are distributed across the city's three legislative districts. As of May 5, a total of 1,173 ACMs have been dispersed.
To safeguard the delivery and storage of the ACMs, Marantan has deployed 2,007 DCPO personnel across the city. These officers will be responsible for maintaining peace and order and supporting overall security operations throughout the election period.
The Final Testing and Sealing (FTS) of the ACMs is scheduled for May 6, ensuring each machine is functioning correctly and hasn't been tampered with before the official vote count.
While specific DCPO statements about their approach to the elections are limited, their focus on maintaining public order in past events suggests a broader operational strategy. The DCPO has also been collaborating with national agencies like the DILG, engaging in initiatives like KALINISAN clean-up drives and anti-insurgency programs.
The DCPO's efforts are aimed at ensuring a "peaceful, fair, and honest" election process. Preparations include conducting Simex drills to test police readiness and coordination for election-related incidents. Additionally, from January to March 2025, 42 violators were arrested and 32 firearms were confiscated to maintain the nationwide election gun ban, reflecting the DCPO's commitment to preventing armed intimidation.
The public is urged to remain vigilant, follow official guidelines, and cooperate with law enforcement to help ensure a safe, orderly, and credible election. The DCPO remains on high alert, continually coordinating with partner agencies to fine-tune security and operational plans.
