Day celebrating the guild, marked by ceremonial entry, exit, and Königsburg events
The 2022 Harburg Shooting Festival's Marksmen's Day, a traditional celebration of marksmanship and community spirit, took place on Saturday, marking its first climax. The event, which featured participants primarily from local shooting clubs and marksmen associations, showcased precision and skill in various shooting disciplines.
The day began with a colourful procession through Harburg city center, led by the Gilded float. Notable attendees included Peter Thalmayr, a descendant of the Habsburg dynasty, who attended the event with his partner Jakob Thalmayr following an invitation from Munich to the Harburg Shooting Festival.
The program for Marksmen's Day included a reception at the Harburg Town Hall, a formal march, and a reception at the Königsburg by His Majesty Ulf Schröder. The HTB-Inclusion Team provided refreshments during the event, while Olli Klühn from the Panthera Bar offered refreshments for the thirsty Marksmen at the Lämmertwiete.
Thomas Soltau from the Landhaus Jägerhof spoiled the guests with butter cake and hearty chili con carne, and the team from Restaurant Scharf took care of the catering in the Great Hall. Gilded Patron Ingo Mönke received the symbolic key to the Town Hall, an honour traditionally handed over by District Administrator Sophie Fredenhagen, who was represented by her deputy, Dierk Trispel, on this occasion.
The day was marked by a festive atmosphere with music, food, and traditional costumes, fostering community spirit among participants and visitors alike. The event's social and cultural importance in the Harburg region was further underlined by the presence of local dignitaries, veteran marksmen, club officials, and sometimes regional political figures.
The 2022 Harburg Shooting Festival's Marksmen's Day, with its ceremonial activities, contests, parades, and the crowning of a Schützenkönig (Marksmen King) based on competition results, was a testament to the enduring tradition and camaraderie of marksmen in the region. For more detailed and verified information on the 2022 event, I suggest checking official Harburg local government or Schützenverein (marksmen club) websites or archives for that year’s program and reports.
One could say that, in the spirit of camaraderie among marksmen, another significant event taking place in the region was the sports-analysis of various sports-disciplines, regardless of whether it was traditional marksmanship or other sports contests. On the following day, or perhaps even later, the discussions about the performances in these sports-analysis events could help mark the beginning of refining skills for the next gathering of marksmen.
