David's most trusted associate meets a grim end in Butterfly's third episode, while the family of the main character gathers together.
In the heart of South Korea's bustling city of Busan, the third episode of Butterfly (2025) unfolds, following David Jung (Daniel Dae Kim) and his family's perilous escape from their relentless pursuers.
David, still bearing the scars of his recent encounters, finds solace in the company of his family. However, tensions rise as Rebecca expresses her frustration towards Eun-ju, who insists she is not an enemy and reveals her past connection with David.
With Caddis closing in, David urgently requests Yong-sik to expedite their passports for an international escape. In a daring move, David and his family manage to evade capture by pulling the emergency alarm on a train and switching to a truck for their journey to Busan. To throw Caddis off their trail, they leave a bloodied handprint on an incorrect truck.
The family finds refuge in a safe house in Busan, thanks to a local man. Meanwhile, Juno, furious at David's evasion, dispatches her team, including Gun, to capture or kill him.
The episode is filled with significant events, including the family's narrow escape from Juno's agents, David's urgent need to secure passports, the establishment of the Busan safe house, and the growing emotional complexity within the family. Tensions between David, Rebecca, Eun-ju, and young Minhee add a layer of intrigue to the family's already precarious situation.
Rebecca teaches Minhee how to load a gun, causing tension between her and Eun-ju. David, in a desperate moment, calls Juno to scold her for her actions and to kill Oliver when she can hear it, but whether he actually shoots Oliver remains uncertain.
The CIA is investigating the death of a young man who was a CIA asset and the son of a property magnate, adding another layer of mystery to the series. Caddis experiences an outage in their systems, causing a disruption in their satellite feed.
As the stakes continue to rise, the third episode of Butterfly masterfully blends action sequences of evasion with character-driven moments of family friction, creating a gripping narrative that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.
Butterfly episode 3, titled 'Busan,' was released on August 13.
