Former NHL Defenceman David Savard Joins Remparts de Québec as Defence Advisor

David Savard, a former professional hockey player who spent 870 games in the league, including 259 with the Montreal Canadiens, has taken on a new role as a defence advisor for the Remparts de Québec. This marks his first training session with the team.

Savard's new position was made possible by Paul Boutilier, co-leader of the 44 Seconds mentoring firm, which specializes in the development of defencemen. Boutilier has signed a multi-season agreement with the Remparts de Québec to offer a world-class defensive development program.

In his new role, Savard will provide advice to young players through video sequences. General Manager Simon Gagné sees potential benefits for the Remparts' eight defenders from Savard's experience and success.

Étienne Desjardins, who was named captain of the Reds, finds Savard's presence and teaching potential to be a big asset. Thomas Charbonneau, another team member, is also excited about the potential impact Savard's advice could have on the Remparts in the coming days and weeks.

Savard, who was drafted in the fourth round of the QMJHL (Baie-Comeau), played for the Moncton Wildcats and Springfield Falcons before securing a permanent spot with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He retired from professional hockey and has not been involved with the Canadiens, except for a role with the Canadiens Children's Foundation.

Savard expressed his interest in watching the upcoming Canadiens season, particularly the impact of the newly acquired Noah Dobson. However, he has not been offered any immediate opportunities with the Canadiens, except for his role with the Canadiens Children's Foundation.

The arrival of Savard at the Videotron Centre has been met with enthusiasm by many. Both Desjardins and Charbonneau are optimistic about the team's improvement with Savard's guidance. Savard himself has expressed that he wishes he had such support at the beginning of his hockey career.

Paul Boutilier, along with Savard, leads the group "44 Seconds," which aims to provide a world-class defensive development program. Their collaboration with the Remparts de Québec promises an exciting future for the team and its young players.
