"'Dave Fanning expresses surprise about Oasis, referring to them as just another band"
In the upcoming weeks, RTÉ Radio 1 will air a new three-part series, The Fanning Files: Oasis, presented by veteran broadcaster Dave Fanning. This series will take listeners on a journey through the evolution of one of the most iconic bands in British music history – Oasis.
From their formation in Manchester in 1991, Oasis rose to become one of the defining Britpop bands of the 1990s. With Liam Gallagher on vocals and Noel Gallagher joining as the lead guitarist and chief songwriter, they shaped a signature sound that would capture the hearts of millions.
Their debut album, Definitely Maybe (1994), was a record-breaking success, arriving at a pivotal Britpop moment. This was followed by the monumental success of (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995), which became one of the best-selling albums in UK history.
The Fanning Files: Oasis will feature contributions from Liam and Noel Gallagher, Bonehead, Andy Bell, Alan McGee, and Tony McCarroll. The series will delve into key milestones such as their 1996 Knebworth concerts, the release of Be Here Now (1997), and the band's subsequent changes in personnel and musical direction.
The narrative will also reflect on Oasis's lasting influence on rock music and Britpop culture, culminating in their 2024 reunion and 2025 world tour. This highly anticipated event has generated enormous interest due to the band's previous breakup and the brothers’ fraught relationship.
Dave Fanning, who has met Oasis multiple times over the past thirty years, will share stories, banter, and anecdotes from his extensive interviews with the band. The series will include previously unreleased material, such as an interview from 1997 for the album Be Here Now, and live performances of "Slide Away" and "Live Forever" from their first interview together in 1994.
The Fanning Files: Oasis will air at 6pm on RTE Radio 1, Saturday. Tune in to hear Fanning's insights on Oasis's success, their "in your face" rock 'n' roll style, and his criticisms of their live performances compared to other artists.
As the series airs ahead of Oasis's reunion shows at Croke Park, fans can look forward to reliving the band's glory days and gaining new insights into their tumultuous history. Don't miss this opportunity to journey through the highs and lows of one of the most influential bands in British music history.
