Davao residents gather for a prayer service marking the 100th day of FPRRD's detention at the International Criminal Court (ICC)
Hordes of Dabawenyos unite in Rizal Park for a heartfelt vigil, marking 100 days of ex-president Rodrigo Duterte's detention in The Hague
Enthusiasts, spearheaded by Atty. Martin Delgra III, illuminated candles in solidarity with the former president and chanted a unified declaration of support and sovereignty. In their declaration, they reaffirmed their allegiance to Duterte and their stand against any Filipino being judged by foreign entities.
"Let's take a moment to ponder upon what's right, what's just, and what truly benefits our nation. May this moment foster a deeper camaraderie among us, rooted in respect for our rights, our dignity, andour shared history," they asserted.
Meanwhile, First District Representative Paolo "Pulong" Duterte, in his speech, conveyed the immense emotional turmoil and injustice of the situation, stating, "His exile is unbearable." He underlined the fact that his father bravely fought against the nation's adversaries, but now finds himself abandoned, far from home.
"He has committed no crimes. He has given his life to serve this nation, to lead us through arduous times so we can live in peace, free from fear, and with pride," he added.
Pulong implored Filipinos both domestically and globally not to forget Duterte; instead, to remember him as a leader, a father, a confidant, and a patriot. He urged them to pray for Duterte's strength, health, and freedom.
Pulong believed that the Filipino people would stand by Duterte, as he battled for them.
Duterte was transported to The Hague, Netherlands, on March 11, 2025, to stand trial for alleged crimes against humanity allegedly committed during his tenure. In spite of his detention, Duterte was re-elected as the mayor of Davao City on May 13, 2025, with 662,630 votes, surpassing rivals Karlo Nograles and Bishop Rod Cubos, on his return to local politics.[RGP]
Similar gatherings took place in Cagayan de Oro City and other locations, signifying regional unity and compassion for Duterte's situation.[1][3][4] The events were characterized by prayer, candlelight, and reflection, denoting a strong emotional and spiritual backing rather than confrontational protests. The vigils urged the public to exercise continuous advocacy in support of Duterte during this challenging phase of his legal battle.[1][3][4]
"As the vigil in Davao City unfolds, politics and justice intertwine, with participants rallying behind Duterte, affirming their opposition to foreign entities judging Filipinos. In the midst of this, they appeal for a deeper unity, rooted in respect for rights, dignity, and shared history.
Meanwhile, in general news, health and strength are sought for Duterte, as Pulong urges prayers for his wellbeing and freedom. This plea echoes across the country, as similar vigils take place in Cagayan de Oro and other locations, signaling regional solidarity.
Amidst these calls, war-and-conflicts seem absent, replaced by prayer, candlelight, and reflection, indicating a strong emotional and spiritual backing rather than confrontational protests. These vigils serve as a reminder for the public to continue advocating for Duterte during this critical period of his legal battle."
