Davao City dispatches security personnel for election duty

In just three years, the voices of Davao City's citizens will once again resonate as they cast their votes during the imminent 2025 National and Local Elections on May 12. Gearing up for this critical moment, safety and security forces will be stationed city-wide, with the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), Task Force-Davao, and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) stepping forward to uphold peace and order.

On May 2, 2025, the send-off ceremony for these dedicated officers took place at Camp Capt. Domingo Leonor in San Pedro, Davao City. Police Colonel Hansel Marantan, DCPO's leading figure, reiterated the police's vital role in safeguarding voters during this democratic process. He spoke out firmly against the reprehensible act of vote-buying, urging citizens not to fall victim to this flagrant violation.

"One eagerly awaited voice after every three years is that of our fellow citizens. It's our duty to protect, guide, and ensure their voice prevails during this election," he declared.

Recognizing the significant responsibility of these security personnel, Atty. Shajani Ebrahim, the third district election officer, highlighted the immense trust placed upon them by the nation.

"The burden on your shoulders is immense, but so is the trust placed upon you. We have faith that you'll rise to the occasion, as you always have, with unwavering professionalism and dedication," she stated emphatically.

Ebrahim was quick to remind the personnel that their role surpasses merely securing the election; they are upholding the very essence of democracy.

In a statement on April 24, Marantan estimated that around 5,000 officers from the DCPO will patrol the city, with personnel posted at polling precincts and tasked with safeguarding election materials.

Standing alongside local forces, reserve units like the Special Action Force and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion will be at the ready. The trusted Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will join hands with the Philippine National Police (PNP) in ensuring an orderly and peaceful election.

As the eyes of the nation turn to Davao City for this significant election, the concerted efforts of these diverse security forces will fervently strive to protect the sanctity of the democratic process and ensure the voices of its citizens are heard loud and clear.
