Daughter of Slain MP Demands Apology Over 'Kill Your MP' Comments From Kneecap
Bloke's kid who lost his pops, Sir David Amess, slain Tory MP, is cookin' up a storm for Irish rap gang Kneecap to apologize over some wild comments they made. At one of their gigs in November 2023, it looks like one of the boys declared, "The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP."
Nasty business, ain't it? Now, if you 'appen to have the good fortune of takin' a gander at Sir David's death, you might understand why Katie Amess wants these lads to make amends. Speaking to the UK Tonight With Sarah-Jane Mee, she said, "I'd be more than happy to sit down and chat with 'em. I reckon they've never met a victim of somethin' like this, so they ain't given it much thought. If they was to meet with me and see the pain and the turmoil I go through each day, I reckon they'd feel pretty darn guilty. I reckon they'd apologize 'cause if not, what kinda folks are they?"
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch is doin' her part by demandin' the prosecution of Kneecap after the video surfaced. Downing Street ain't happy about the remarks, labbin' 'em "completely unacceptable."
Cops are lookin' into it, too, investigate with footage from not just the 2023 gig, but another one in London's Kentish Town Forum, apparently from November 2024. In that vid, seems like one of the Kneecap members shouts "up Hamas, up Hezbollah" – shout-outs to groups banned as terrorist organisations in the UK.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said, "We received a video on the 22nd of April, believed to be from the 2024 event, and it's been referred to the counter-terrorism internet referral unit for assessment, to figure out if a further police investigation is required. We also received another video, believed to be from the 2023 event."
Badenoch was more than pleased to hear that the po-po were lookin' into things, sayin', "Kneecap’s promotion of terrorism and anti-British hatred ain't got no place in our society. Now the footage shows one of 'em sayin' "The only good Tory is a dead Tory. Kill your local MP". This demands prosecution."
Ms Amess also welcomed the investigation. She told our website, "I wake up every day knowin' I'll never see my father again. He won't be at my wedding, can't meet my kids. There's nothin' funny about this. It's serious, and the government and the cops need to take it seriously and nip this in the bud, put a stop to this rhetoric bein' tolerated."
Kneecap, made up of Liam Og O Hannaidh, Naoise O Caireallain, and JJ O Dochartaigh, think they're skatin' through a coordinated smear campaign. In a statement, they said, "We do not, and never have, supported Hamas or Hezbollah. We condemn all attacks on civilians, always. An extract of footage, deliberately taken out of context, is now being exploited and weaponized as if it were a call to action."
The Three Amigos from Kneecap added, "To the Amess and Cox families, we send our heartfelt apologies. We never meant to cause you any hurt. Kneecap's message has always been - and remains - one of love, inclusivity, and hope. This is why our music resonates with people across generations, countries, social classes, and cultures, bringin' hundreds of thousands of people to our gigs."
Now you know the lowdown on this mess. Kneecap's got some 'splainin' to do, and the police is investigatin'. The future's uncertain, but keep an eye out for updates.
