Smashing News: Pete Rose Back in the Baseball Game!
Daughter of Pete Rose discusses encounter with Rob Manfred, emotions upon discovering father's ban had been lifted
Got a scoop for you sports fans! Major League Baseball (MLB) just announced some juicy developments regarding the legendary Pete Rose. His ban from baseball, which has been a thorn in his side for years, has finally been lifted!
Commissioner Rob Manfred declared that anyone on baseball's ineligible list will be removed from it posthumously. This means Rose is now eligible for consideration for the Hall of Fame!
The news comes less than two days before Rose's Cincinnati Reds hosted Pete Rose Night, a previous event scheduled in honor of the vibrant personality who passed away in September. Family members and Reds greats gathered for a pregame ceremony on this heartwarming occasion.
Fawn Rose, Pete's daughter, shared her thoughts on this groundbreaking development. "We were boarding a plane in Seattle, and I got a phone call at about 10:15. And I got a phone call from our attorney... One step at a time. One step at a time," she said, filled with emotion.
Fawn praised Commissioner Manfred for his compassionate understanding during their conversations shortly after Pete's passing. "During my meeting with the commissioner, the commissioner was so grateful," she shared, highlighting the warmth and respect in their interactions.
Intriguing Side Note: Notably, other players now becoming baseball eligible include "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and the rest of the 1919 Black Sox. In total, 17 players are now reinstated and can pursue their dreams of being in the Hall of Fame.
Rose admitted to gambling in 2004, ending years of denial. Though his passing in September is now followed by the possibility of Hall of Fame recognition, he had stated 10 days before his death that he didn't expect to make it in, if at all.
MLB concluded that Rose gambled on the Reds, only for them to win, during his terms as both a manager and player. In 1991, after a two-year ban by A. Bartlett Giamatti, the Hall of Fame declared those ineligible from baseball would be ineligible for induction into Cooperstown.
Although the official timeline for Rose's Hall of Fame consideration is yet to be decided, it's expected that he will be up for a vote by the Classic Baseball Era Committee, which considers players whose careers ended more than 15 years ago. That committee convenes in December 2027, requiring 12 out of 16 votes to secure a place in the Hall of Fame for Rose.
