Mark your calendars darts aficionados! The 2026 PDC World Championship is set to return to the Alexandra Palace, also known as Ally Pally, in London, featuring an expanded XXL format. The much-anticipated tournament kicks off in December and runs through January, as per the PDC's announcement during the World Cup in Frankfurt. Although the specifics for this enlarged 128-player event remain to be disclosed, CEO Matthew Porter hinted at the venue's confirmation in an earlier interview.

Rumors circulating about a potential shift from the British Isles, perhaps to destinations such as Saudi Arabia, have yet to be substantiated. Yet, what we do know for certain is the West Hall, with approximately 3,500 seats, will continue to host the immense competition.

Prize Purse Skyrockets! A Million Euros Up for Grabs

In a move to cement darts' position among the most thrilling and sought-after sports worldwide, the PDC has not only increased the number of participants from 96 to 128 but has also boosted the prize money for the champion to over one million euros. According to Porter, this substantial reward reflects the sport's growing popularity and prestige. This means that top athletes, including defending champion Luke Littler, will now face each other in the opening rounds, mirroring a tennis Grand Slam tournament style.

With this increase, there will be 32 extra matches and eight additional sessions at Ally Pally, generating more ticket revenue. The championship might also commence four days earlier – on the 11th instead of the 15th of December, for a smoother and more efficient tournament flow.

Darts Grand Slam Format Has Arrived

Aside from the increased prize money, competitors can also look forward to a tournament structure akin to a tennis Grand Slam, as the Darts World Championship will continue in its traditional knockout format.
