Juicy Secrets Unveiled: Prakash Jiwa's Match-Fixing Saga
In a shocking twist, the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) has officially confirmed [Link in English] that it's found player Prakash Jiwa, 54, guilty of rigging a whopping four games of the Modus Super Series. These underhanded activities took place between February and June 2023.
The DRA's accusations against Jiwa include deliberately losing games he'd previously placed bets on. Jiwa's record speaks for itself: he lost two games 0:4 and the other two 1:4. However, the DRA has kept tight-lipped about the value of the bets. What's clear is that Jiwa's opponents were blissfully unaware of the sports bets or the manipulation involved.
In addition to fixing his own games, Jiwa is reported to have also bet on the results of other players, which also flouts DRA regulations. shockingly, he even gambled on games of the Darts Premier League, another clear violation.
Swift and Severe Punishment for Jiwa
The DRA had suspended Jiwa towards the end of 2023 due to ongoing investigations. Now that the investigation results are in, Jiwa is facing a damning eight-year ban from any competitions organized by the DRA. The ban will run from the date of the announcement, lasting until November 6, 2031.
Not only that, Jiwa will also have to ** cough up a hefty fine of 17,741.46 GBP (approx. 21,102.40 EUR) and cover the costs of the proceedings. Jiwa has until March 19, 2025, to lodge an appeal against the verdict. The DRA reiterated that Jiwa denied the allegations until the bitter end**.
With this lengthy ban, Jiwa's career may well be over. In recent years, he managed to secure a PDC Tour Card three times and even qualified for the Darts World Championship in 2023. On the Pro Tour, Jiwa went head-to-head with big-name players like Michael van Gerwen, 35, and Peter Wright, 55. He even clinched two victories against former world champion Gary Anderson, 54.
A Rising Star Takes a tumble: Dom Taylor's Drug Scandal
Darts isn't just battling match-fixing; it's also grappling with substance abuse. Dom Taylor, 26, was slapped with a suspension at the end of 2024 after a routine drug test flagged a positive result. Apparently, a prohibited substance was detected in Taylor's blood. The exact substance went unnamed, but his subsequent two-year ban was reduced to three months because it didn't seem to affect Taylor's play.
As of late January 2025, Taylor was back in action and participating in PDC competitions. Last week, he locked horns with reigning World Champion Luke Littler, 18, in a nail-biting contest that Taylor emerged victorious from.
DRA's Tough Stance Against Corruption
The Prakash Jiwa case is the latest example of match-fixing in darts. Not long ago, another darts prodigy, Leighton Bennett, 19, faced scrutiny for match manipulation. The verdicts in both cases demonstrate that the DRA won't tolerate such activities.
John Pierce, head of the UK Gambling Commission [English link], is firmly on board:
All betting customers in the U.K should be able to trust that bets placed with licensed gambling providers take place on fair markets and are free from sports betting-related corruption.
Our Sports Betting Intelligence Unit works closely with partners like the Darts Regulation Authority to support investigations into the integrity of sports and combat match-fixing. This decision sends a clear message that corruption related to betting in sports will not be tolerated.
