Darnold discusses his reasons for joining the Seahawks during free agency: "A distinctive spot"
Hitting the Pacific Waves: Sam Darnold Steers towards the Seahawks
Dive into the latest disbelief-sparking sports news as we delve into what's creating a stir on Foxnews.com, the place buzzing with exhilarating sports chatter.
Sam Darnold, the once Vikings' QB phenom, is making waves in the NFL free agency market, and it looks like he might be hitching a ride to the Pacific Northwest — the Seattle Seahawks, that is!
Darnold's career-best season with the Vikings, despite a disappointing end to their playoff run, granted him the recognition and the financial means to choose his next crew—but selecting the right fit isn't a walk in the park, even for an experienced professional sports player.
But when the Seahawks bit the dust and sent their veteran QB Geno Smith packing to the Las Vegas Raiders, gossip started flowing. Could Darnold be the newest addition to the Seahawks roster?
And let's just say Darnold was thinking the same thing as his agents at Creative Artists Agency: "When we heard the news that Geno [Smith] was traded, it was like, 'Okay, Seattle could be a potential spot,'" Darnold confessed to our website Digital, during his Lowe's Foundation for SkillsUSA National Signing Day interview.

For Darnold, the key element was mutual interest and eagerness, combined with his strong interest in having an impact within the team.
But there are more factors to consider than just finding the right fit, especially for a QB. The team must showcase a solid defense, a dynamic offense, and a promising coach. And in that regard, the Seahawks are scoring high.
Darnold tore up the Seahawks in a 27-24 win for his Vikings, and he was smitten: "I love what I see when I face the Seahawks. The players on defense, on offense — it's impressive. Their defense was a real challenge last year, and I got to know coach Klint Kubiak last season. I know him from San Francisco, where things went up in smoke... I mean, I mean flared up," Darnold enthused.
The Seahawks never made it to the playoffs last season, but they came pretty close with a 10-7 record — a noteworthy achievement for their first-year head coach, Mike Macdonald.
But the on-field performance isn't everything. After all, free agents aren't just looking for winning records; they're hunting for a dynamic team chemistry and culture. And Darnold saw that magic instantly in Seattle.

While Darnold settles into his new home, he made sure to check out the Lowe's Seattle store's SkillsUSA National Signing Day ceremony, a celebration designed to honor future electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, and builders—an initiative close to his heart as his own father has been a plumber for over 30 years.
"The meeting with these kids showed me the hard work they've already put in, getting to chat with them and talk to them about coming up in the trades landscape," Darnold explained. "I think there are a multitude of opportunities out there in the trade world these days, and my dad and I have often discussed how there are fewer kids pursuing that career path. So, I'm glad I got a chance to share that experience."
New ADP data suggests that approximately 20% of workers aged 20-24 held blue-collar jobs as of May 2023—a 2% increase from 2019. However, the US suffers from a shortage of 439,000 construction workers.
