Although his efforts to regain control proved ineffective, the players believe that his quick thinking prevented more casualties. An Afternoon of Sorrow
Emergency services, comprising four medical helicopters, were promptly dispatched to the scene. Despite the paramedics' heroic efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the crash site. The 17 injured players, aged 16 to 18, were transported to hospitals in Kielce, Opatów, and Staszów. Fortunately, none of their injuries were deemed life-threatening.
Unfortunately, following several agonizing hours in the hospital, the coach too succumbed to his injuries, further deepening the tragedy surrounding the accident.
