A thrill-seeker’s nightmare unfolded on June 17, 2025, when a 32-year-old mountain guide, hailing from the Vallouise valley, met an untimely end during a wingsuit jump from the Pointe Trifide in La Grave, French Alps. According to reports by France 3 and "Le Dauphiné Libéré," the public prosecutor’s office confirmed the tragic event[1][2].
Facing altitude of a staggering 3,450 meters, our brave adventurer plunged headfirst, equipped with a wingsuit—essentially a specialized jumpsuit that allows for controlled flight during the free fall due to wing-like fabric between the arms and legs. The idea is to glide briefly before opening a parachute for landing. Alas, his flight took a grim twist from which he never recovered.
His wingsuit companion survived the daring stunt, touching down safely in the valley below. Despite their shared adrenaline rush, the tragedy took a devastating toll on both the survivor and the local community. "They jumped together, and one crashed at the foot of Trifide," confided Jean-Pierre Pic, the mayor of La Grave, to the press[3].
The occurrence has sparked an official investigation by the local CRS Alpes and the gendarmerie’s aerial section, shedding light on the appalling circumstances that led to this horror[4]. Let’s hope for answers and a newfound caution amongst extreme sports enthusiasts.
Make sure to hang on tight, folks. Adventure is worthwhile, but ensuring a safe return is paramount.
