Denmark has been hit by heavy rain over the past few days, leading to significant traffic disruptions and weather warnings from the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI).

On Monday and Tuesday, DMI issued dangerous weather alerts due to the volume of the downpours. The agency initially issued a category 3 warning ("very dangerous weather") for heavy rain with 50 to 150 mm expected in parts of Denmark, mainly across a belt from Jutland through Funen to Zealand, causing risks of cloudbursts, flooding, and societal disruption including traffic interruptions. Copenhagen was under a category 2 warning ("severe weather") with expected impacts on traffic and utilities.

Following a storm with peaks of 150 mm rain, multiple traffic disruptions, and ongoing hazardous conditions, DMI downgraded the warning to category 2 on July 22, indicating reduced but still significant weather risk.

The Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet) provides a live traffic updates map to monitor road disruptions related to heavy rain. As of Tuesday evening, the map shows several disruptions caused by water on the road, particularly in the worst-affected areas of Falster and western Zealand. The E20 motorway between junctions 41 and 40b near Ringsted has a closed lane due to water on the road, and national route 23 near Kalundborg is also affected by water on the road surface.

The heavy rain front that affected Denmark has moved south of the country and eased off. Scattered showers are expected in Jutland on Wednesday, but the intensity of the showers will be significantly less than in the past few days.

Vejdirektoratet advises drivers to drive in accordance with the conditions while they work to clear up the disruptions. Travelers and residents are encouraged to follow DMI advisories and check the Vejdirektoratet traffic updates map for the latest road conditions and disruptions.
