Hot Weather Alert: Denmark Braces for a Three-Day Heatwave

Denmark is gearing up for a three-day heatwave, as temperatures are set to soar above 28 degrees Celsius, according to the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI). This extended period of hot weather, known as a hedebølge in Denmark, is expected to commence on Wednesday and last until Friday.

The weather will be warm across the country, with most regions remaining dry on Friday. However, rain is forecast in Jutland, starting in the west at around 9am and moving north. The west coast will have cooled considerably by Friday, with a peak of around 20 degrees forecast, and some areas only getting up to around 17 or 18 degrees.

On Wednesday, temperatures will hit 27 to 28 degrees, with the highest readings likely to be in Jutland, particularly around Skive on the west coast and the island of Mors. In contrast to dry conditions on Wednesday, rain is forecast in Jutland, starting in the west at around 9am and moving north.

Thursday will be a day of hot summer weather, but with lower temperatures in western Jutland compared to Wednesday. The hottest conditions are expected on southern islands Lolland-Falster and Bornholm, with temperatures of 28 to 29 degrees Celsius. It is even possible that Lolland and Falster could potentially break the 30-degree mark locally.

The specific regions in Denmark expected to experience the highest temperatures during the upcoming heatwave are North Zealand and Bornholm, where temperatures are soaring to around 30°C. This heatwave is part of the broader intense heat event affecting Fennoscandia and Northern Europe in 2025, attributed in part to climate change, making such extreme temperatures more frequent and intense.

Scattered showers on Friday may be heavy in places and accompanied by thunder. Some rain may persist on Friday, the final day of the expected heatwave, in the form of scattered showers, which may be heavy in places and accompanied by thunder.

This heatwave serves as a reminder for everyone to stay cool, hydrated, and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the heat. It's essential to check on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly, during such periods and ensure they have access to cool environments and adequate hydration.
