A planned meeting between Greenland's PM, Múte Egede, and Denmark's King Frederik in Copenhagen has been axed, just as rumors swirl about Donald Trump Jr's impending visit to the Arctic territory.

The rescheduled gathering between Egede and King Frederik, initially slated for Wednesday, has been confirmed by the Danish royal palace as postponed. No explicit reason for the cancellation was provided by the palace, while Egede revealed it was due to "a scheduling debacle."
This coincides with escalating rhetoric surrounding a hypothetical U.S. takeover of Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory that comes under President-elect Donald Trump's jurisdiction in just a few days.
Confirming the news, Trump acknowledged that Don Jr was set to embark on an excursion to Greenland. "My son, Don Jr, along with his cronies, will be journeying there to revisit some of the most striking vistas and vistas," Trump declared on his social media platform.
"Greenland is a breathtaking place, and its people stand to profit immensely if, and when, it merges with our glorious nation. We are prepared to defend it fiercely from vicious foreign adversaries. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!" the post continued.

In his New Year address on January 1st, Egede called for "the next step for our nation." A senior Greenlandic foreign affairs official, Minnguaq Kleist, informed Danish national broadcaster DR that an advance party for Trump Jr's visit would arrive in Nuuk on Tuesday. The visit, however, is private and no attempt has been made to engage the Greenlandic government, Kleist added.
Contradictory reports have emerged, with national media KNR suggesting Trump Jr will meet with Erik Jensen, leader of the governing Siumut party and finance minister in Greenland. Meanwhile, Jensen denied these claims to KNR.
Reuters reported that Trump Jr is in Greenland for recording a podcast, clarifying that no meeting with the Greenlandic government is scheduled.
The Danish foreign ministry stated that they had acknowledged the planned visit of Donald Trump Jr. to Greenland and didn't provide further comment, since the visit was not an official U.S. expedition.
Earlier, Trump had asserted that "for the sake of the world's security and global freedom, the United States feels that the ownership and control of Greenland are essential." Greenland's government had swiftly rebutted these statements, acknowledging that Greenland is not for sale, echoing their response to similar remarks made by Trump in 2019.
Elon Musk, the billionaire head of Tesla and soon-to-be Trump administration member, waded into the fray, claiming on his social media platform that Greenlanders aspire for their homeland to become a part of the U.S. Musk has recently inserted himself into national politics in both the United Kingdom and Germany, offering vocal support for far-right parties.
Trump's social media post on Monday also included a video featuring a man in a red "Make America Great Again" cap who expressed a desire to see the U.S. purchase Greenland to free it from Denmark's "colonial rule." However, the video did not disclose the man's identity or the origin and date of the recording.
Greenland: Overview
Greenland, the world's largest island, is an autonomous constituent of the Kingdom of Denmark, with a population of approximately 56,000[1]. It boasts its own parliament and administration, led by Egede. Two delegates from the Danish parliament are elected in Greenland, as well as on another autonomous territory, the Faroe Islands.
One of these two representatives, Aaja Chemnitz, voiced her opposition to Trump's attempts to seize control over Greenland in a statement on Facebook. "I think there are a myriad ways to refuse Trump's demands, and it's clearly something we need to get better at," Chemnitz wrote in a post translated from Greenlandic into Danish by Ritzau[2].
"It's absurd that anyone could be that naive as to believe we might attain happiness by becoming American citizens. No, thank you," she also stated.
"I don't wish to be a pawn in Trump's wild dreams of expanding his empire to encompass our nation," the MP added[2]. Chemnitz also expressed concerns that Trump's overtures might influence upcoming elections in Greenland.
"Don't let Trump manipulate the Greenlandic elections and leave the Greenlandic populace as the losers in this game," she wrote[2].
