The stir surrounding Daniel Halemba, the youngest member of the Bavarian state parliament and the subject of internal scrutiny within the AfD, continues to mount. Halemba, who's also serving as the Würzburg AfD district chairman, is under investigation for incitement to hatred, with the Office for the Protection of the Constitution involved. Moreover, potential violations of AfD regulations are also under investigation.
Due to the gravity of the situation, the AfD federal executive committee has scheduled a meeting this Monday to delve into the matter. This discussion will likely touch upon the alleged rule violations by Halemba and the ongoing investigations.
Additionally, reportedly since the beginning of December, the Teutonia Prag fraternity in Würzburg, of which Halemba is a part, has been under observation by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. The AfD as a whole in Bavaria has also been under observation for some time.
To clarify any potential violations, the AfD federal executive committee had requested statements from various entities, including the Bavarian state executives, the lower Franconia district executive committee, the Junge Alternative state executive committee, and one of the involved individuals. All statements have been received and under evaluation.
In relation to Halemba's case, the public prosecutor's office in Würzburg is investigating charges of incitement of the people and use of symbols of anti-constitutional organizations. Halemba denies these accusations, and at one point, he was arrested on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by the Würzburg district court.
However, the warrant was later suspended under specific conditions, and Halemba was imposed reporting requirements and a ban on contact with other suspects, including fellow Teutonia Prag members. This fraternity has been under surveillance by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution since December due to suspected activities against the free democratic basic order.
Indications of right-wing extremist music, propaganda material from the Identitarian Movement, Nazi devotional objects, and strike with right-wing extremist agitation were discovered in the fraternity's communal rooms. They also hosted events with an activist from the small neo-Nazi party III. Weg, further propagating extremist ideologies.
