In a recent interview on the 'The Clarity Zone' Podcast, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, made several assertions about the philanthropic profile and political alignment of Peter Obi, the Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate.

Bwala emphasised that Obi's philanthropic activities do not align with his financial standing, claiming that Obi has not funded anything to meet the needs of the masses, nor has he given more than N50 million or N100 million. Moreover, Bwala stated that Obi has no record of funding public projects or founding a foundation.

Bwala also suggested that Obi capitalised on youth discontent during the last election, but did not provide any evidence to support this claim. He further claimed that Obi has no history of participating in workers' strikes, protests, or student unionism, even during the EndSARS movement.

Interestingly, Bwala described Obi as a politico in nature and having nothing resembling socialism. He also did not address Obi's political alignment with the allstate Labour Party or his nature as a capitalist.

Despite these claims, there are no publicly available sources explaining why Obi, despite being a billionaire, has not established any foundations or public projects so far. It is worth noting that during the election, Obi visited numerous churches and met with Pentecostal bishops.

After the election, Bwala noted that he did not see Obi attending events like Shiloh in his church. This observation, however, does not necessarily reflect on Obi's philanthropic activities or political alignment.

These assertions have sparked a debate among Nigerians, with some agreeing with Bwala's claims and others questioning the validity of his statements. As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how these claims will impact Obi's campaign and his potential presidency.
