A Billionaire Businessman's Allegation: Major Oil Players Under Fire
Dangote Exposes Individuals Undermining Tinubu's Economic Strategy
Aliko Dangote, the founder of the Dangote Group, has put major oil players in the hot seat, claiming they're trying to thwart President Bola Tinubu's efforts to overhaul Nigeria's economy.
After a private discussion with the president in Abuja, Dangote expressed his concern about unseen forces sabotaging Tinubu's attempts to revitalize the nation's economy. This billionaire had previously voiced his struggles in keeping his $20 billion refinery afloat.
Contrary to speculation, Dangote made it clear that his remarks weren't aimed at the new leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited. He commended the new team at NNPC for their support and stated that they are well-equipped to tackle the company's needs, and, in his opinion, enhance its future prospects.
However, the "cabal" Dangote referred to involved some major oil marketers and traders, who, according to him, were determined to hinder President Tinubu's plans to revive the economy.
Dangote commended Tinubu for assembling a competent team at NNPC, highlighting the appointments of Bayo Ojulari as group chief executive officer (GCEO) and Ahmadu Musa Kida as non-executive chairman. He praised these appointments, saying that they consisted of individuals well-qualified to elevate NNPC to new heights.
"We are confident that this team will address systemic challenges, align with the President's vision of a $1 trillion economy, and reposition NNPC Limited for operational excellence and long-term sustainability," Dangote said.
Dangote also noted that the recent activities and structural reforms initiated by NNPC signified a new focus on transparency, efficiency, and accountability.
This clash between Dangote and some oil players might be more about business rivalry than direct interference in the government's economic agenda, according to the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), who have voiced their support for Dangote.
The ongoing dynamic between these key players remains to be seen as they navigate through the complexities of transforming Nigeria's economy.
