Dance group Sapphire Creations from Kolkata commemorates Independence Day 2025 in Tajikistan

The Sapphire Creations Dance Company from Kolkata, India, is embarking on a cultural tour of Tajikistan from August 15 to 22, 2025, to celebrate India's 79th Independence Day. The tour, titled Atithi Devo Bhava: Celebrating Bharat, will showcase the richness of India's cultural heritage and promote the idea of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) [1][4].

The tour will take the troupe to several Tajik cities, including Dushanbe, Bokhtar, and Istaravshan. They will perform at prestigious venues such as the Takil State Academy Opera, House of Culture, Cultural Palace, and Mug Tepe Fort [1]. The tour will commence with a special performance at the Embassy of Dushanbe, where the Sapphire team will participate in the Indian flag-hoisting ceremony [1][4].

The performance is a vibrant amalgamation of dance, music, and visuals, highlighting various folk forms and festivals from different regions of India. The audience can expect to see Bengal's Patachitra and Bhatiyali, Gujarat's Dandia Raas, and Maharashtra's Ganesh Chaturthi, among others [1].

The 12-member troupe, led by choreographer Sudarshan Chakravorty, aims to welcome audiences with traditional Indian hospitality rituals, continuing the Indian tradition of swagatam with lamps, flowers, sound, food, and betel leaves [1]. This tour is a testament to the strong bonds of friendship between India and Tajikistan and is an extension of the Indian government's diplomatic and cultural outreach efforts [4].

The performances are organized by the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India [4]. This tour offers a unique blend of artistic performance and cultural diplomacy, fostering kinship and friendship between the two nations while celebrating India's diverse cultural legacy and promoting the philosophical ideal of universal brotherhood and connection beyond borders [4].
