This situation comes after the additional district development commissioner (ADDC) of Rajouri, Raj Kumar Thappa, lost his life in one of the shelling incidents by Pakistan.
The tragic news was confirmed by Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah, who expressed his shock and sadness at the loss of such a dedicated officer. On Friday, Thappa was part of the deputy chief minister's team touring Rajouri district, and he even attended an online meeting chaired by Abdullah himself. However, on Saturday morning, Thappa's residence in Rajouri was hit by Pakistan shelling, taking his life.

"Devastating news from Rajouri. We have lost a dedicated officer of the J&K Administration Services. Just yesterday he was accompanying the Deputy CM around the district & attended the online meeting I chaired. Today the residence of the officer was hit by Pak shelling as they targeted Rajouri town killing our Additional District Development Commissioner Sh Raj Kumar Thappa," Omar Abdullah shared on social media.
An initial investigation revealed that a shell struck Thappa's residence around 5:30 am. He had stepped out of his house due to multiple explosions, only to return and be hit by the shell in his own room.

Residents in several cities of Jammu and Kashmir awoke to a series of loud explosions on Saturday morning. This incident occurred shortly after Pakistan military spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry announced that India had targeted three military bases in their region during a hastily called press briefing, without providing any supporting evidence.
Among the affected cities were Srinagar, Jammu, Rajouri, and Udhampur. Intense shelling was also reported on the Pakistani side in Akhnoor, Gurez, Uri, Hamirpur and Pallanwala.
