Damaged asphalt due to buses in Almaty following rain showers, now displaying cracks and deep pits.
Almaty, Kazakhstan - Residents of the Auezov district are facing yet another challenge as heavy rainfall on September 17 has caused sinkings on Yassaui Street, leaving 13 vehicles submerged. The latest incident comes just 10 days after asphalt work was carried out on the same street in September, which has since shown significant cracks and deterioration.
Footage from the scene has sparked public criticism, prompting the Ministry of Emergency Situations to issue a notice. Weather forecasters are also involved in the notice, predicting more rain for the city in the coming days.
The partial road collapse occurred on a section of Yassaui Street at the intersection with Dastan Street, covering an area of 100 sq. m. Specialists estimate that they will fix the issue by tomorrow, September 18. However, no information is provided about any additional road collapses or asphalt deterioration beyond what has already been reported on Yassaui Street.
The company responsible for the asphalt work on September 5 is not publicly available. It is worth noting that a subcontractor organization, "SpetsKommunStroy," had carried out work on building 2.8 km of sewage networks in the area.
An investigation is currently underway to identify the causes of the asphalt failures on Yassaui Street. Ilzat Akchurin, the city akimat's advisor on communication and media relations, issued an information statement regarding the matter. However, no information is provided about any actions being taken by the city akimat or the subcontractor organization "SpetsKommunStroy" in response to the sinkings on Auezov Street.
The sinkings occurred after recent rainfall, raising concerns about the city's infrastructure's resilience to weather conditions. The city of Almaty is expected to experience more heavy rain today, September 17. Residents are advised to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel during the rainy periods.
