Dallas Marathon runners brace for freezing temperatures before record warmth
Runners and spectators at this weekend’s Dallas Marathon will face a sharp drop in temperature. The National Weather Service (NWS) Fort Worth/Dallas office has warned of chilly conditions, with readings in the low 40s during Sunday’s race. The cold snap marks a sudden shift from recent mild weather across North Texas.
Just two days ago, Dallas/Fort Worth enjoyed temperatures in the 70s. Now, arctic air has swept in, bringing a dramatic cooldown. By Sunday night, lows are forecast to plunge into the 20s—the first time since last February.
The cold spell will be short-lived. By mid-week, temperatures are set to climb back into the 70s. North Texas can then expect near-record warmth by next weekend, with mild conditions lasting until Christmas.
The NWS Fort Worth/Dallas office, which oversees official forecasts for the region, has advised marathon participants to prepare for the chill. Despite the brief freeze, longer-term forecasts suggest a return to unseasonably warm weather.
The Dallas Marathon will go ahead under unusually cold conditions before a rapid warm-up. Residents can look forward to highs near record levels in the coming days. The shift from freezing nights to near-summer warmth will bring a stark contrast to the region’s typical December weather.
