Iowa 4-H Dairy Judging Contest: Delaware, Dubuque, and Jones Counties Shine at Iowa State Fair
The Iowa State Fair played host to a fiercely competitive 4-H Dairy Judging Contest, where teams from Delaware, Dubuque, and Jones Counties showcased their skills and knowledge. A total of sixteen 4-H youth participated in the contest, with each county fielding multiple teams.
The Delaware County Dairy Judging teams were coached by Kaleb Kruse, Jeannie Domeyer, and Mason Kruse, while the Dubuque/Jones County kids were guided by Jeff Hammerand. The teams put in hours of practice, judging animals at the farms of Tom and Sara Kruse-KCCK Genetics, Knapp Genetics, and Kunde Jersey Farm, in addition to practicing at the Delaware County Fairgrounds during the DelCo Classic.
The hard work paid off for the Delaware County Dairy Judging teams, with Senior Team 1 claiming the top spot in the contest. This team, consisting of Ford Domeyer, Caden Kremer, Aden Kruse, and Ty Hoeger, earned the top spot in 6 of the 8 categories, including Overall and Reasons.
Caden Kremer impressed the judges, earning 2nd Overall and 1st Brown Swiss, while Aden Kruse secured 4th Overall and Jersey. Ty Hoeger also made a strong showing, winning Brown Swiss and placing 10th Overall. Ford Domeyer, meanwhile, placed in the top ten of every category, earning 1st Overall, 2nd Reasons, and Jersey.
Delaware County's Junior Team 1, consisting of Cooper Schulte, Adley Rahe (Jones Co), Carson Rauen (Dubuque Co), and Tyler Arnold, also had a successful outing. The contest participants received judging notepads and pens donated by Kunde Jersey Farm of Manchester. The three teams from Delaware County, Senior Team 1, Senior Team 2, and Senior Team 3, all competed in the contest.
It is worth noting that the specific youth representing their counties in the Senior or Junior teams at the National 4-H Dairy Judging Contest in Madison, WI, are not publicly detailed at this time.
Senior Team 1 will represent Iowa in the National 4-H Dairy Judging Contest, a testament to their hard work and dedication. The Iowa State Fair's 4-H Dairy Judging Contest was a showcase of the talent and skill of the 4-H youth in Iowa, and a prelude to the national competition to come. The kids also competed at the Mississippi Valley Fair judging contest in late July, further honing their skills and preparing for the future.
