daily strengthening of our administration amidst discontented opponents, asserts Dina Boluarte
Dina Boluarte Stands Tough Amid Controversy
In a defiant stance, President Dina Boluarte addressed her critics during a recent ceremony, showcasing the first batch of 700 assault rifles for the National Police of Peru (PNP). Boluarte, backed by the Minister of the Interior, high-ranking officers, and public officials, declared that her government will persist in the face of criticism.
"Our administration doesn't back down; instead, it grows stronger in the face of the dissatisfaction of some disgruntled individuals," Boluarte asserted. She emphasized that criticism doesn't impede her team's progress and that they respond with tangible results. "We're here with strength and determination to carry on building a Peru unlike the one we inherited," she reinforced.
Boluarte identified with her Andean roots and expressed pride in representing the long-neglected regions of the country. She linked her personal journey with her government's commitment to addressing the demands of "deep Peru."
"I don't say this to portray myself as a victim because of my Andean heritage. No, I say it with pride in identifying as Andean, coming from the beautiful Chalhuanca valley, a descendant of Micaela Bastidas – that historic and courageous woman who never gave up," she stated.
Facing Insecurity Head-On
The event was intended to officially present the initial batch of weapons aimed at updating the National Police's arsenal, marking the beginning of an "integrated strategy" to strengthen the fight against common and organized crime. Boluarte promised that throughout 2025, more than 7,000 new, high-quality rifles will be acquired. She also highlighted that the procurement process was carried out swiftly, transparently, and free of corruption, a statement that might also be interpreted as a political message amidst allegations and scandals involving previous administrations.
Balancing Act and Pursuit of Continuity
During her speech, Boluarte highlighted several accomplishments she believes demonstrate her administration's dedication to the country's wellbeing. These achievements include unblocking iconic projects, constructing hospitals, schools, and bridges, increasing formal employment, and raising the minimum wage. "Results speak for themselves," she frequently emphasized, indicating that she views them as her best defense against criticism.
Controversial Salary Hike Proposal
Amidst ongoing investigations, criticism, and low popularity, President Dina Boluarte is reportedly pushing for a 125% increase in her salary. If approved, her monthly salary would peak at nearly 36,000 soles. The initiative, backed by Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzén and supported by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, has faced public outrage, particularly given the country's current economic and social challenges. However, the proposal's approval status remains unclear as of now.
