Daily Sports Update - September 17, 2025

In the realm of sports, there have been some exciting developments in Colorado and Wyoming recently. Let's dive into the action!

Yesterday, the Colorado Rockies faced off against Miami in a 3-game series at home and unfortunately lost the first game 6-5. The team will be looking to bounce back today, as they take on the Marlins once more, starting at 6:40pm.

Meanwhile, in the world of college football, the Colorado Buffaloes are facing a unique challenge with their quarterback situation. With three signal callers on the roster, including Kaidon Salter (Sr.) and a junior quarterback from Highlands Ranch, as well as a sophomore quarterback from Stevenson Ranch, the starting quarterback role has been rotated or shared among players this season.

Moving on to the University of Wyoming, their defense is finding it challenging to prepare for the right Colorado quarterback, as the one who plays may not play the entire game. The Cowboy Football team will play their last non-conference game this weekend against Colorado in Boulder, with the kickoff scheduled for 8:15pm this Saturday.

In high school sports, the Arvada-Clearmont girls basketball team has one state championship in its trophy case, which happened back in 2007. The A-C volleyball team, on the other hand, has been to the state tournament a number of times but has only made it to the semi-finals twice and has never played in the state championship match.

Interestingly, lately, it has usually been the same teams that qualify for the 8-team state tournament each year in Class 1A volleyball and basketball in Wyoming. A proposal has been brought forth to the Wyoming High School Activities Association Board of Directors to create a Class 1B for volleyball and basketball, which could start as early as next year. If approved, this could lead to a 5th state championship team in volleyball and basketball.

The WHSAA Board of Directors is scheduled to meet on Thursday, October 2nd to discuss this proposal in more detail. Currently, there are 25 teams in Class 1A for volleyball and basketball in Wyoming High School Sports.

Mickey Moniak, a key player for the Rockies, hit a 3-run home run in the 8th inning to try to get a comeback started and had 4 RBI's total in the game.

That's all for now! Stay tuned for more updates from the world of sports in Colorado and Wyoming!
