Sports Roundup: Wyoming and Surrounding Regions
The sports scene in Wyoming and surrounding areas is buzzing with excitement this week, as several teams gear up for crucial matches and meets.
Football
The University of Wyoming Cowboys are set to renew their old rivalry at home tomorrow, taking on Utah. Quarterback Kaden Anderson is expected to play in the highly anticipated game. Meanwhile, high school football teams are also getting into the action. Big Horn HS and Tongue River HS will start their 2A East Conference play today, with Big Horn facing Wheatland and Tongue River playing on the road against Burns. The Sheridan HS Football team will play at home against Natrona County today, a team that has previously bested them in both regular season games and the playoff semifinals.
Volleyball
The Big Horn Invitational volleyball tournament will feature a total of 7 games against 2A West opponents today and tomorrow. Meanwhile, Sheridan HS Volleyball starts 4A East Conference play today and tomorrow.
Golf, Cross Country, and Tennis
The 4A East Qualifier Meet for Sheridan HS Golf is underway, while Buffalo is at the 3A East Conference meet in Torrington. Tongue River and Big Horn will play a 2-day meet in Wright starting today. Sheridan/Johnson County HS Cross Country teams are scheduled to run at a meet tomorrow in Bozeman, Montana, while Tongue River races today at Douglas. The regular season for Sheridan HS Tennis concludes tomorrow on the road against Gillette teams.
Swimming and Diving
In swimming and diving, Sheridan won a home dual meet vs. Buffalo yesterday.
Broncos and Rockies
In professional sports, the Denver Broncos will play their first road game of the season on Sunday, as the team visits Indianapolis. The Colorado Rockies opened up a 4-game series yesterday at San Diego and lost 2-zip. Today's game is scheduled to begin at 7:40pm.
Other Results
In a strong start to the season, Tongue River HS Football has outscored their opponents 76-3 in the two games played so far. Big Horn swept previously undefeated Pine Bluffs at home yesterday. Buffalo ran yesterday at Gillette, with Ethan Rayo finishing first for the boys, as the Bison finished 2nd out of 5 teams. The Buffalo girls finished 3rd.
Hockey
Lastly, the Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey team resumes their 6-game road trip to start the season this weekend, playing today and tomorrow at Gillette.
