Daily Sports Update for August 11, 2025
The sports scene in Wyoming and Colorado is gearing up for a new season, with several teams starting practice and preparing for their opening games.
Football
The 4-time defending state champion Sheridan Broncs begin practice today for the 2025 season, aiming to extend their record-breaking 43-game winning and unbeaten streak. The Broncs' season opener is scheduled for August 29th at Cheyenne South. Other home opponents for the Broncs include Natrona County, Cheyenne Central, and Laramie.
Meanwhile, practice for all Class 4A football teams in Wyoming starts today. The season has come to an end for all Wyoming Legion Baseball teams.
In Colorado, the Colorado Rockies are looking to turn around their fortunes after losing 7 games in a row. They start a 3-game series today at St. Louis, hoping to break their losing streak.
Tennis
The Sheridan Broncs' home opener for the tennis season is scheduled for September 5th against Thunder Basin. Both the boys' and girls' tennis teams are preparing for a busy weekend, with matches at a jamboree in Casper on Saturday. Practice for all classes of golf and tennis starts today.
Golf
The Tongue River girls' golf team, last year's Class 2A State Runners-Up, and the Sheridan girls' golf team, last year's 4A State Runners-Up, will start competition this coming Thursday and Friday at Powell. The Tongue River boys' team will compete on Friday at Upton and on Saturday at Thermopolis.
Baseball
The Gillette baseball team was eliminated from the AA Northwest Regional Tournament in Billings, Montana, on Saturday. The Lovell baseball team also saw their season end in the 2nd round of the tournament in Burley, Idaho.
Portland, Oregon won the AA Northwest Regional Tournament by beating Idaho Falls twice on Saturday.
Denver Broncos
In pre-season action, the Denver Broncos won their first game of the season this past Saturday at San Francisco 30-9. The backup QB's accounted for 3 touchdowns in the game, with Jarrett Stidham throwing 2 of them.
