The Sheridan Troopers showcased a valiant effort in the 2025 Wyoming Legion Baseball AA State Championship Tournament, ultimately falling short in the championship game against the Gillette Roughriders. Despite the loss, the Troopers' strategic approach provided valuable lessons and set the stage for an exciting elimination game.

The tournament, held in Cheyenne, followed a modified double-elimination format. The Troopers kicked off their campaign with a 6-0 victory over the Laramie Rangers on Monday, July 28. On Tuesday, they stunned the top-seeded Gillette Roughriders 2-1, and on Wednesday, they clinched a spot in the championship game by beating the host and five-time defending state champions, Cheyenne Post 6, 4-2.

Key performances during the tournament included Griffen Switzenberg's complete game victory against the Cheyenne Sixers, and Will Greer's impressive 6 2/3 innings with just one run allowed during the upset over Gillette.

However, the championship game on Friday, August 1, ended in a heartbreaking 3-4 loss for the Troopers. The Roughriders qualified for the AA Northwest Regional Tournament in Billings, Montana on August 6-10.

Meanwhile, the Troopers will face the winner of the Gillette vs. Casper elimination game at 2pm in a one-game winner-take-all state championship game. The Troopers could afford to lose one game and still play for the state championship.

In other news, the Colorado Rockies are starting a 6-game homestand. Their first game, against Pittsburgh, is scheduled for 6:10pm. The games on tomorrow and Sunday are set to start at 1:10pm.

The Rockies have also been involved in a trade with the New York Yankees. In this deal, they received minor league second baseman Roc Riggio and minor league left-handed pitcher Ben Shields. Both Riggio and Shields have been sent to Colorado's AA team in Hartford, Connecticut. The Rockies also gave up right-handed relief pitcher James Bird in the trade.

The Wyoming Legion Baseball AA State Tournament games can be listened to live on AM 1410 KWYO and 106.9 FM. The Troopers last played in the state championship game in 2016, and their last state championship win was in 1997.

Day 4 of the tournament occurred yesterday, and Gillette eliminated Cheyenne Post 6 1-nothing. The Sheridan Troopers lost their game against Casper 11-5.

As the Troopers prepare for their upcoming game, they reflect on the lessons learned from their close-fought tournament and look forward to the opportunity to redeem themselves in the elimination game.

In the run-up to their upcoming elimination game, the Sheridan Troopers look forward to applying the strategic lessons they learned during the 2025 Wyoming Legion Baseball AA State Championship Tournament, where they played sports such as baseball, showcasing a valiant effort.
