Daily Sports Digest: September 16, 2025
The University of Wyoming football team suffered a home loss against Utah last Saturday, with a final score of 24-16. The Cowboys allowed a first down conversion on a 3rd and 21 play, which led to a touchdown for the Utes. In the first half, Utah missed three field goals and fumbled once, but Wyoming failed to convert these turnovers into points. Head Coach Jay Sawvel attributes part of the problem to poor execution of plays.
In a different sporting event, the University of Wyoming will play their final non-conference game of the season this coming Saturday at Colorado.
Meanwhile, in swimming and diving, Sheridan High School's team had a successful weekend at the Natrona County High School meet. They placed 2nd out of 7 teams and won 1st place in 5 events. The girls swimming and diving team also finished 2nd out of 5 teams at the Powell Invitational, with the Lady Bison securing several impressive victories.
Sheridan High School's tennis team also had a productive weekend, winning 3 out of 4 dual matches this past Saturday at the Gillette schools. The boys team defeated both Thunder Basin and Campbell County, while the girls split their matches.
The Colorado Rockies are set to start their final homestand of the season today, with 3 games against Miami followed by 3 games against the LA Angels. Unfortunately, the Rockies had a day off yesterday, but the first pitch for today's game is scheduled for 6:40pm.
The North Regional Tournament for tennis will take place this coming Friday and Saturday at both Cody and Powell. The state tennis meet is scheduled in 1 week at Gillette.
Buffalo High School's girls swimming and diving team participated in meets in Worland on Friday and Powell on Saturday, but no results regarding their performance were provided.
Lastly, the University of Wyoming's football team will play their final game before conference play this coming Saturday at Colorado. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15pm.
