Daily NYT Shortcuts: Additional Hints and Solutions for the Puzzle on September 19 (Friday)

In today's edition of the NYT Mini Crossword, solvers were greeted with a quick, yet intriguing puzzle. The crossword, now exclusively available to subscribers, offers a condensed version of the newspaper's larger, long-running crossword.

The clue for 1 Across, "A tiny piece of fish food," led many to guess "Flake," which turned out to be the correct answer. The sardonic boss from the popular TV show Parks and Recreation, Ron Swanson, was the answer for 9 Across, "Director Howard and Will Ferrell newsreader character Burgundy."

The clue for 4 Down, "German philosopher Immanuel," hinted at Kant, who posed the question 'What can I know?' in his work. The visitor from outer space, as indicated by the clue for 3 Down, "A popular type of creature in sci-fi stories," was revealed to be Alien.

The solver encountered a bit of a hiccup when guessing "mauve" for 6 Across, a nice-smelling springtime shrub that's purple or white, which turned out to be Lilac. However, they found solace in the RON Swanson reference in the Mini.

The clue for 8 Across, "Something you might say when placing a wager," led to the sarcastic "Yeah, sure," or I Bet. Unfortunately, the solver didn't get this one right.

The solver had two missing letters to fill in for most of the Down answers, making the puzzle even more challenging. It took a total of 0:39 to complete today's NYT Mini crossword.

The solver invites readers to sign up for their newsletter, follow their blog for more coverage of the NYT Mini and other word games, as well as video game news, insights, and analysis. They also encourage readers to join their Discord community to chat about the Mini, Connections, and other NYT games.

An NYT Games subscription is required to access previous puzzles in the archives. This marks the end of the current stint of NYT Mini coverage. The next edition promises to be just as engaging and thought-provoking. So, keep your pencils sharp and your minds open for the next challenge!
