How I solved today's Strands
"Trill" – that's a type of flute sound, but it could also be a bird song or someone accentuating their Rs. Strange, but it clicked.
Ah, I've caught the bird: WARBLER. 🔵
Found the spangram here: SONGBIRDS. 🟡
LARK's hiding left of the spangram's left half. 🔵
CARDINAL's chillin' to the right of the spangram's right half. 🔵

WREN's rounding off the bottom. 🔵
CHICKADEE's on top left. 🔵
Finally, SPARROW. 🔵
How to play Strands
Navigate to the Strands game on NYT's website or the NYT Games app to get things started.
When you start playin', you'll see a board with a mix of letters, accompanied by a clue that hints at the theme. Your task is to pinpoint the hidden words that match the puzzle's theme.
Imagine if crossword puzzles had a love child with word searches – Strands is that baby.
Pay special attention to the "spangram," because that bad boy tells you the main theme of the puzzle. The spangram runs across the whole board, either left to right or top to bottom, my friend. Once you find the spangram, it'll be highlighted in yellow. Solve that sucker, and it'll make the rest of the puzzle a breeze.
Words in Strands can move any direction (up, down, left, right, even diagonal). You're only gonna use each letter once, and there's only one correct solution. When you correctly identify one of the puzzle's words (like HUMMINGBIRD or FINCH), it'll be highlighted in blue.
If you're stuck, you can submit any non-theme words you see (as long as they're four letters or more) to earn credit for a hint. If you submit three non-theme words, the "Hint" button will be clickable; hit it, and all letters in one of the theme words will be highlighted. Just connect 'em in the right order to reveal the theme word. If a hint already exists on the board, and you use another hint before finding that word, you'll get the letters in order for that word.
How to win Strands
Nobody can lose at Strands! You'll submit guesses, and you'll either correctly identify an answer, receive credit for a hint, or the board will give you a little shake, signifying an incorrect guess. No guess limit and no timer – just strawberry fields forever!
You win when you've used all the letters on the board, meaning you've figured out the spangram, and all of the theme words. It's just like other NYT games – solve the puzzle, and you'll get a shareable card that tells you how you performed that day: blue dots 🔵 for theme words found, yellow dot 🟡 for when you found the spangram, and a lightbulb 💡 for words you got a hint on.
