Daily Mail owner DMGT acquires The Telegraph in £500m landmark deal
The Daily Telegraph, one of Britain’s oldest newspapers, has changed hands after a £500 million deal. The purchase by DMGT, the owner of the Daily Mail, was finalised on 22 November 2025. The move brings two influential right-leaning titles under the same ownership for the first time in their histories.
The Telegraph Media Group, which publishes The Daily Telegraph, was valued at £600 million in 2023. Its sale follows a bid by Jonathan Harmsworth, the controlling shareholder of DMGT. The deal marks a major shift in the UK media landscape, as both outlets have long been key voices in conservative-leaning journalism.
The £500 million transaction cements DMGT’s position as a dominant force in British journalism. Regulators will now assess whether the deal reduces competition in the news market. If approved, the combined group will control some of the UK’s most widely read newspapers.
