In the realm of international relations, several significant discussions and agreements have taken place recently. Syria and Israel are engaged in talks aimed at ending Israeli airstrikes and troop presence in southern Syria, with Israel insisting on maintaining strategic positions like Mount Hermon. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa expressed optimism about the negotiations, stating that a deal must guarantee Syria's territorial integrity and be overseen by the United Nations.
Meanwhile, leaders from the 21 APEC member economies, including the United States, China, Japan, Russia, Australia, Canada, and South Korea, are expected to attend the APEC summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, on October 31 to November 1, 2022. The summit, which will focus on easing regional tensions, is preceded by Seoul and Washington pursuing a trade deal involving $350 billion in South Korean investment and tariff cuts.
Elsewhere, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have strengthened their decades-long security partnership by signing a mutual defense pact. The agreement states that any attack on one will be treated as an attack on both, aiming to boost regional stability through closer military coordination.
In the world of technology, TEKNOFEST 2025, Turkey's largest technology festival, opened in Istanbul with a record 1.1 million participants competing in 64 categories. The event saw the unveiling of new platforms like NSosyal and the AI-powered "Küre" Digital Encyclopaedia. Chairman Selcuk Bayraktar highlighted the role of youth in driving the National Technology Initiative, linking technological progress with moral responsibility and humanitarian concerns such as Gaza.
The Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, scheduled from 19 to 21 September, will see approximately 300 journalists, including representatives from Netflix, Reuters, AFP, and Sky Sports, covering the event from the newly opened Media Centre in Baku.
