Daily Athletics Update: September 12, 2025

Get ready for an exciting weekend of sports in our region! Here's a rundown of the upcoming games and competitions involving our local high schools and universities.

Golf

Tongue River and Big Horn golf teams will be teeing off at a 2-day meet in Wright starting today. The competition promises to be fierce, as both teams aim to secure top spots.

Football

In the world of football, Tongue River High School (THS) kicks off their 2A East Conference play today against Burns, while Big Horn High School (BHS) starts their conference games at Wheatland. The kickoff for both games is scheduled for 2pm and 6pm respectively. BHS will be looking to turn their season around after losses to Mitchell, Nebraska, and Torrington.

Volleyball

Arvada-Clearmont and Kaycee will be taking on various 1A opponents at Southeast and at Lingle-Ft. Laramie this weekend. Meanwhile, Buffalo High School (BHS) will be in Rawlins to face off against various 3A opponents. Sheridan High School (SHS) volleyball teams will start their 4A East Conference play today and tomorrow, playing at Cheyenne East and Cheyenne Central respectively.

Cross Country

BHS Cross Country girls finished a commendable 3rd in a recent meet, while Ethan Rayo from BHS took the top spot for the boys. The Bison finished 2nd out of 5 teams in the same meet. Sheridan/Johnson County High School Cross Country teams will compete at a meet tomorrow in Bozeman, Montana, while Tongue River races today at Douglas.

Baseball

Colorado Rockies Baseball will return home on Tuesday to play their final homestand of the season. Unfortunately, they lost the first game of a 4-game series yesterday at San Diego.

Swimming and Diving

Sheridan High School's Girls Swimming and Diving team won a home dual meet vs. Buffalo yesterday. The Lady Rams, as well as Tongue River, will be playing a total of 7 games against 2A West opponents over the course of today and tomorrow at the Big Horn Invitational.

Basketball

The state meets begin one week from today in golf. In basketball, Sheridan High School has a home game today against Natrona County, and other student sports with competitions today include volleyball, cross country, and soccer.

University of Wyoming Football

The University of Wyoming Football will renew their old rivalry at home tomorrow against Utah. Quarterback Kaden Anderson is expected to play despite being hurt in the last game.

Hockey

Sheridan High School Junior Hockey resumes their 6-game road trip this weekend, playing in Gillette.

Tennis

Sheridan High School Tennis concludes the regular season tomorrow, playing against Gillette teams.

Radio Broadcast

Shane Parker will provide the radio play-by-play call for the Sheridan High School Football game on AM 1410 KWYO and 106.9 FM.

Coach's Statements

Sheridan High School Football Coach Jeff Mowry states that his team will have to work hard to win against Natrona County. Coach Eagle of Tongue River High School Football believes that the opposition has a lot in common with their team. Big Horn High School Football Coach Kirk McLaughlin states that the opposition appears to be changing their plan of attack this year.

The opposition for Sheridan High School Football, Natrona County, hasn't had a losing season since 2009. Big Horn High School swept previously undefeated Pine Bluffs at home yesterday. Tongue River High School Football has outscored their opponents 76-3 from home in the 2 games they've played so far this season.

The University of Wyoming Football will be looking to continue their winning streak after their last game. The Denver Broncos play their first road game of the season on Sunday, visiting Indianapolis.
